Hungry for Games

It’s been a while since I posted about ‘The Hunger Games’, but a couple of exciting developments have occurred over the past couple of weeks regarding the film.

Make that films.

According to sources, Lionsgate will make FOUR films based on THG trilogy.  When I was learning maths, four didn’t go into three (or vice versa) but over the years, Google and iThings have made everything possible, so I’m going with four movies easily evolving from three books.  Just plug in the text, Google ‘create script’, and we have FOUR.

On a serious note, this news might be very positive.  Although THG is action-based, the important themes of government, uprising, totalitarianism, media-as-deadly-octopus, survival, and enforced serfdom need to be explored.  As do the strong, complicated bounty of relationships — Katniss with Peeta, Gale, her mum, Prim, Rue, the memories of her father, with Haymitch.  With Cinna.

Oh, the depth of Suzanne Collins’ (seemingly) action-driven, young adult, violent interpretation of a hideous future, where the winner of a reality show doesn’t simply get money.  They get their life!

Thank goodness for fiction.

Don’t know about you, but this news excited me like NO other.

Donald Sutherland to play President Snow.

I can’t wait to see Jennifer Lawrence (the amazingly gritty young actor from Winter’s Bone) face off against the diabolically gifted, I-can-play-evil-with-the-merest sneer’ Sutherland.  Imagine that!

The character of Snow is so cold, so shockingly icy in his ruthless dictatorship of Panem, it’ll be worth watching the film for the Katniss-Snow action alone.

Then there’s Woody Harreleson as Haymitch (a bit of a personal tragedy for me, coz I donna like Woody at all, but I LOVE Haymitch) and Oh, my God!  Lenny Kravitz as Cinna.  Cannot wait to see this.  Such an interesting casting decision.

Apparently, the release date for the first Hunger Games movie is late March, 2012.  It will give us all time to re-read the trilogy again, imagine it on film, and practise our archery on the sunday pork roast.

Donald Sutherland as Snow?  Bring it!  Please.

    Hey you,

Saw the news break this morn, well this morning for me anyway, dunno what time it was for you, but I saw it and I reacted to it, and I’m going to write about it else where. Note: I started a blog me-self, so follow the link thingie and read away if you will, miss. I will say this though, I’m not entirely on board with the four film deal, but I mulling on it as we, as I type. Oh yes, Sutherland is the best news to break as far as I’m concerned, and I literally gasped at 8 am when @lionsgatenews tweeted the tweet.

Hey you.  thanks for the linkage.  Have a little bit o’ time on the weekend to have a squizz at your new blog and will be interested to see what you have written.

I guess the ‘not entirely on board’ with the four film thing might be due to the ‘notion’ that it will be extended JUST for the sake of it?  I feel a little of that too.  Hopefully not, though, but we all know about the prime objective of money making.

LOVE the casting of Sutherland.  Also, I love Lenny, so him as cinna will be very, very interesting.
