The fact that The Hunger Games trilogy blows my mind is no secret.  It has been recced to family and friends with abandon.  Regardless of age or state of life, 100% of family readers have loved it and some have even admitted to reading them twice or *shocked gasp* being addicted.

The fictional couple of Funky and Chicken have also read THG.  At almost 80-each, they were rapt in the storyline and (secretly) wanted to be Katniss, Peeta and Gale.  And, I don’t think age OR gender mattered much to them!

Enough of family and foibles.  It’s recently been announced that Jennifer Lawrence will play the amazing, strong, oft-reaped, teen-woman, Katniss Everdeen.  I was (secretly — we’re that type of family) hoping for a trio of unknown actors to play the three leads.  Lawrence could be considered relatively ‘unknown’ and in the picture I’ve linked above, looks absolutely nothing like Suzanne Collins’s protagonist.

I would have been dubious had I not seen Winter’s Bone late last year.

This young person is one talented actor.  Regardless of hair colour, build, glam smile and Sundance Film award association, Lawrence is a gun.  Twill be so interesting to see how she breathes life into Katniss for film, and if anyone has the skill to do it (at that age) she has.  I didn’t like Winter’s Bone much.  It was a bad night for me to watch it and I think it was my flatness, rather than the film’s, that left me fairly indifferent.  She was compelling, though.  If she can compell Katniss half as well, it will suit this reader/viewer.

This casting should please Chicken who worried that ‘someone like Angelina Jolie’ might secure Katniss, and then ‘Sam Worthington — who is in everything, although I like him — might end up playing Gale.’

Good grief.

LOL. That Chicken is a pure delight, alright. I’m very impressed with her iMDB-like brain. *g*

I’ve not seen Winter’s Bone so was intigued by the trailer -- Jennifer seems to have the chops for the Katniss gig. However there’s always that danger when a person is SO captivated by characters in a book that the movie finds it hard to do them justice. *bites nails*

I hope and PRAY that I am wrong, and possibly I am in this case -- THG series of books make such utterly brilliant reading and it would seem sacrilege if the movies are anything BUT exceptional as well.

Oh and randomly: I hope the cleaning ‘issues’ at Chez Jones are under control. LOL.

  2. Rosie says:

Randomly?  I’m sick of cleaning, ffs.  Anyone would think that the Queen of Sheba was coming here rather than this old tart from north of the boarder.  Sheesh.

I hope the Melbourne Holiday Inn has room for you as well as your bro’s family, beyotch.  I have bleach-stained hair … oh, sorry, that’s the greys.

Hey Sarah.  Now I’ve done insulting you, lets talk book-to-movie translation.  I’m trying to think of one done REALLY really well.  In fact, many are, but you’re right.  There’s actually a LOT of scope for THG to be done poorly due to the high intensity of the story.

The next move will be to secure strong guys for Peeta and Gale.  I imagine that will be difficult.  Like you, I’m hoping they do a great job and I’m ready to expect them to do so.  *fingers crossed*

Chicken’s knowledge of most things is pretty exceptional.  she’s also quite opinionated about her movie/book/tv likes and dislikes.  AND SHE’S AN AVID BLOODY CLEANER.  RUNS IN THE FAMILY.

    See you soooon

Oh,al-le-lu-ia, at least it’s not Kristen Stewart!!!!!! Haven’t seen Jennifer Lawrence in anything I don’t think, but at least from viewing the trailer above, she hasn’t the moody, pouty, mournful puss adorning Ms.KS. AND, Jen can wield an axe and handle a shotgun…traits essential for portraying Katniss, LOL.
What ya been up to Lady and what’s wif cleanin’. Did Crebbie have fun with the tweenies and his bff Tyson???? Have you a busy weekend ahead? Txt me when you’re free to Skype (as long as it doesn’t interfere with my important expat duties!!!!). Luv ya xoxoxoxoxo

      Hey girlie gal.

What’s news?  Missed ya the last couple of weeks and it’s been a combo of working and you in Vietnam and my important schedule, yanno? Also?  The computer is SO slow and wonky atm, and I really need to get a newbie.  Hence, the teaching.  So I’ll have to Skype on Cassa’s.  Maybe Friesday?

Crebbie (I think) had a lot of fun.  He was a joy to have and the three of them were sibling-like the entire day.  He did NOT mix with his BFF Tyson.

Oh.  I think that J_Lawrence is going to be great of Katnip.  I cannot wait to see that film, Gay, we might have to have a BIG night out (all of the addicted) to see it.  Kristen who?

Orrighty.  I had to clean for about 3 days before Sarah K from Sydney way is coming to visit.  The house had become a pigsty with me the biggest pork.

      Love you x

I’ve been following the casting developments very closely for awhile now, and as you know, or hopefully know(do you know?), I’m very satisfied with Jennifer Lawrence getting cast.

Now it’s on to the other pivotal roles i.e. Peeta, Gale, Haymitch, Effie and Cinna.
I hear the front runners for Peeta are, Alex Pettyfer(gag me), Hunter Parrish(I approve), and Josh Hutcherson(adorable, very good actor).
No buzz for Gale as of late or for any other important roles.
Go to my journal, I link to an article/interview with the director, he sheds some light on the process.

    • Rosie says:

Hi Rebekah.  I like two of the three names you’ve mentioned for Peeta, although I know neither of them well (or their work) but I’m okay with that.  I want to enjoy the build up to the film release without comparing them to their previous roles.

I did know you were satisified with Jen Lawrence getting the part.  It’s good news, innit?

They seem to be taking forever to cast it, don’t they?  I want to take the archery lessons with JL (and I secretly wanna be Katniss myself)

  5. This makes me SO excited for her to play Katniss, Rosie! I’ve been hearing buzz about Winter’s Bone for some time, and now I’m determined to see it asap. How excited are you for THG movie? She’s going to rock it (and she can already do the accent).

    • Rosie says:

      Hello lovely.

I AM SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS FILM.  I even think I need to reread the books now.  I’m stuck on the second ‘Girl with the Tattoo on her Bum’ book, which I like, but I’m very slow reading it.

Jennifer Lawrence may well rock The Katniss.  HOPE so, and I’m expecting great things.  ‘Winter’s Bone’ is a bit labourious, but I think that was my frame of mind while watching xx

“They” better get the casting right.  That’s all I’m sayin’.

    • Rosie says:

Hey Squirt Ma’am.  How’s the weekend.  It’s madness here.  YOU HEAR ME, MADNESS.

Oh, and that’s just me.  Did you enjoy the first Hunger Games?  Are you ready for more?

Hope all is well and the sleepover was successful xx
